25th October, 2017. Dar es Salaam. Confirming its commitment to promoting healthy living while supporting the growth of tourism in the country, leading digital lifestyle company Tigo Tanzania has announced sponsorship of the 21Km Tigo Kilimanjaro Half Marathon.
The road race will happen during the annual Kilimanjaro Marathon extravaganza, set to adorn the streets of Moshi town in March of next year (2018).
“We are thrilled to once again be part of this iconic road race that brings together elite athletes alongside people from all walks of life in a celebration of sports, fun, culture, tourism and healthy living,” Tigo’s Zonal Director for Coast Zone, Henry Kinabo announced at the launch event in Dar es Salaam, today.
This is the fourth year running that Tigo is partnering with EXSOL to support the landmark event that among other things, promotes Tanzania’s tourism attractions to the worldwide community, whilst bringing together family and friends in a celebration of fitness, healthy living, camaraderie and unforgettable memories.
As is the norm, race weekend will feature professional athletes from the far reaches of the globe, rubbing shoulders with athletics enthusiasts and families in a 42Km Full Marathon, the 21Km Tigo Kilimanjaro Half Marathon, a 10Km Run and a 5Km Fun Walk.
‘Tigo is giving away a total of TZS 11m in cash prizes to the top ten male and female performers in the Tigo Kilimanjaro Half-Marathon event. Victors in both the men’s and women’s races will each receive cash awards of TZS 2m, second place finishers will receive TZS 1m each, while TZS 650,000 will be on offer for the third place finishers,’ Kinabo revealed. Additionally, other prizes ranging from TZS 500,000/- to TZS 100,000 will be up for grabs for the fourth to tenth placed finishers in both the men’s and women’s races, alongside commemorative medals.
Run on the streets of Moshi town, overlooking the majestic slopes of Africa’s highest snow capped peak - the mighty Kilimanjaro, the Kilimanjaro Marathon has grown to become one of the highlight events in the global athletics calendar.
‘We invite all participants to the Tigo Kilimanjaro Half Marathon to share their memories with loved ones on Tigo 4G, Tanzania’s largest and fastest network,’ Kinabo concluded.

- US $35 for East African Residents
